The content of the Trade and Retail Management B.A. programme is closely oriented to the present-day demands of commerce especially with regard to the retail trade, globalisation, digitalisation and sustainability. Designed as a practice-oriented degree programme, companies such as coop, EDEKA, Beck's, EDUSCHO and Jacobs-Suchard have been involved in its success from the very beginning. You will therefore benefit from a large network of companies that support us with lectures, seminars, case studies, projects and, last but not least, work placements. The programme provides you with a sound foundation in business administration that is consistently geared towards the trade and retail sector right from the start. You will also build up your international competence and complete at least a whole semester gaining practical experience, either in Germany or abroad. This means you are ideally equipped to immediately gain a foothold in junior management.
The possible job profile includes all business management functions and relates to all company sizes and forms involved in commerce. The requirement profiles for junior and subsequent senior management are subject to constant change. For example, graduates are currently being sought in key account management, category management, supply chain management, customer relationship management and trade marketing. The degree programme takes these requirements into account and aims to qualify students to take on management functions in national and international trading companies or in trade-oriented departments of other companies. You could of course even launch your own start-up venture.
In the first four semesters, you will receive a sound business education that is from the very beginning consistently oriented towards commerce. In addition to the sub-disciplines of business administration, methods in mathematics, statistics and project management there is also a focus on business information systems. You build international competence through the integration of intercultural and international topics as well as courses in English.
With such a sound education, you are excellently equipped for the fifth semester, which you spend entirely doing a work placement. This practical phase can be completed either in Germany or abroad.
In the sixth and seventh semesters, you choose two areas from a catalogue of four topics for your profile studies. In parallel, you write your Bachelor's thesis. For more than twenty years now, the Conzen Foundation has been promoting participants of the programme by awarding prizes each year for what practitioners consider to be the best Bachelor's theses.
Although the degree programme "Trade and Retail Management" is not classified as an international degree programme at the Hochschule Bremen, it is still possible to integrate international components. HSB maintains a wide network of companies, both in Europe as well as in other countries, that provide work placements. Moreover, we offer some free places at selected partner universities as part of the certificate internationales. Places are currently available in Brussels, The Hague and Cairo. It is also possible to complete some parts of the degree programme abroad or to take additional international components.
