The International Degree Programme Global Management B.A. (ISGM) focuses on 'emerging economies' in Latin America, Asia and Africa, of which Costa Rica, Thailand or Brazil serve as good examples. These regions are among the most economically intriguing regions in the world. Over the course of your studies, you will acquire a broad range of knowledge from the fields of international and intercultural management as well as economics and cultural studies, law and languages, which will prepare you to take on leadership roles in companies and organisations around the world.

Making contacts and gathering valuable new experience in another part of the world will immensely enhance your personal profile. A semester studying abroad and a 20-week international work placement are an integral part of the curriculum.

NEW from winter semester 2022/23:
A detailed presentation of the target regions for your stay abroad will take place during the orientation weeks. This will assist you in determining your priorities for the target region and the specific country you eventually choose, for which you will receive comprehensive cultural and linguistic preparation in the course of your studies.

You are able to choose from the following four regions:

  • Spanish-speaking Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Colombia, Mexico and Peru)
  • Brazil
  • Indonesia
  • Other emerging economies (India, Kenya, Malaysia, Namibia, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam and other selected countries)

There is an upper capacity limit for each destination region. If this is exceeded, allocation is made by drawing lots. A change of region is then no longer possible for organisational reasons.

Career prospects

The mix of subjects in the degree programme as well as the stay abroad in an 'emerging economy' provide you with the ability to find your way around in very different cultural contexts and to act successfully. Furthermore, intercultural competence is becoming increasingly important in all branches of the economy. This applies to multinational corporations as well as medium-sized companies, public administration and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

With language courses in Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian or English that prepare you for your destination region, you also expand your foreign language skills and deepen your intercultural skill sets. It often happens that these stays abroad open up interesting career prospects. Setting up your own business – also in the target region – is another option you might consider.

Are you aiming for a Master's degree? With a successful Bachelor's degree in ISGM, you are qualified to take up a Master's programme. This opens the doors to the MBA in Global Management at the International Graduate Center, for example. Many ISGM students opt for a Master's programme after completing their Bachelor's degree.

Programme structure

The ISGM study programme is as diverse as the course content: You study the first four semesters at the Hochschule Bremen and acquire comprehensive subject-specific and language skills as well as social competences (soft skills), which you can use during your subsequent stay abroad in the 5th and 6th semester in an 'emerging economy' in Latin America, Asia or Africa. Learning the language of your target region (English, Spanish, Portuguese or Indonesian) is an integral part of the ISGM programme, as is comprehensive preparation and follow-up of the year you will spend abroad.  For your degree, you return to the Hochschule Bremen for a final semester to write your Bachelor's thesis and complete your studies with 210 ECTS.

Internationality

The ISGM degree programme attaches great importance to internationality! Our degree programme promotes intercultural competences through student exchanges. Many of the lecturers have also gained experience in other countries. A significant proportion of the courses at the Hochschule Bremen are held in English.

Moreover, many of your classmates will be exchange students from foreign partner universities. This constitutes a decisive advantage: you will be able to build up a local network of contacts in your target region even before you start your own year abroad. A one-year stay in the target region is a central component of the degree programme.

Please note that in some cases tuition fees may be charged for the studies you undertake at a foreign university.

Practice orientation

A 20-week work placement abroad is part of the curriculum. This experience of professional life in a foreign culture creates a particularly interesting link between theory and practice – you gain an insight into the working world in your respective destination region.

The curriculum consists of 35 modules. The module-related exercise serves to impart knowledge in an application-related manner. Exercises and case studies are integrated into the course according to the learning progress of the students. To ensure the acquisition of competences, the contents of the module are practised and trained. This takes place, among other things, via:

  • materials posted on the university's own learning platform called AULIS and
  • the establishment and supervision of a discussion forum on the learning platform, where students can put questions and take part in discussions according to their learning progress.
