Are you interested in programming, artificial intelligence, robotics, or virtual realities? You want to know more about how machines, automobiles, aircraft, or ships are designed and manufactured? Then study mechanical engineering with a focus on digitalisation!

The aim of the engineering degree programme in Mechanical Engineering with Focus on Digitalisation B. Eng. is to provide a broad range of qualifications that matches both the current and projected requirements of the industry.

The degree programme offers you a solid and versatile education in contemporary and emerging areas of mechanical engineering. It has a dual focus, concentrating on the planning and the complete manufacturing process of industrial products as well as the tools and methods of digitalisation.

Career prospects

The degree programme qualifies you to work as a mechanical engineer in the areas of manufacturing technology, production, planning and development, such as:

  • Large, medium-sized and small mechanical engineering companies
  • Automotive industry
  • Aerospace industry
  • Engineering offices
  • Apparatus engineering
  • Research institutes
  • Food industry
  • Public authorities

Programme structure

The degree programme is planned and realised as a seven-semester programme with five modules per semester. Exceptions are the 5th semester with the practical semester and the 7th semester with the Bachelor's thesis.

The programme is divided into four study phases that build on each other.

  • In the first year of study (1st and 2nd semester), students learn the requisite mathematical, software and scientific basics and different entry levels are balanced out.
  • In the second year of study (3rd and 4th semesters), the subject-specific basics are taught, and in parts also knowledge of the specialisation in the 4th semester.
  • In the third year of study (5th semester), the newly acquired competences are deepened in the supervised practical phase.
  • In the third / fourth year of study (6th and 7th semester), competences are deepened with regard to current topics surrounding digitalisation in the field of mechanical engineering. The Bachelor's thesis is scheduled for the 7th semester.
  • Module manuals of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (in German)
  • Course catalogue of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Only available in German)

Examination regulations (German)

  • BPO Maschinenbau mit Schwerpunkt Digitalisierung (2022) (PDF, 553 KB, File does not meet accessibility standards)
  • General examination regulations for bachelor degree programmes

Internationality

Students have the opportunity to go abroad within the framework of a mobility window in the theory semester (4th or 6th semester) or the practical phase. Students are supported and advised by the Decentralised International Office "DIO", in collaboration with the head of the degree programme and the chair of the examination board.
