Student Health Management

Healthy through your studies!

We want you to feel as good as possible at our university and to make it through your studies in a healthy way, which is why we're starting up a Student Health Management service (SGM) for you. We want to provide you with support for your health and, together with you, make Hochschule Bremen a healthier place for all of us.

Student Health Management - what actually is that?

Student Health Management (SGM) is a programme at universities that looks after the health of students. On the one hand, it aims to promote and maintain the health of students. On the other hand, it develops health-promoting structures at universities that are intended to make a lasting contribution to good study conditions.

The term "Corporate Health Management" (WHM) is perhaps more familiar. WHM develops and offers health-promoting measures and structures for employees in companies and organizations, with the aim of maintaining the employees' working capacity.

SGM is based on this concept. In addition to individual health and the development of beneficial structures, we at HSB are also concerned with another aspect: you should also be able to experience the importance of health and its promotion for your later professional life as a member of the workforce and acquire competencies in this area.

Join in!

We kicked things off with our survey of students at the beginning of the year. The results were clear: Overall, you are doing well at HSB, but there is still room for improvement. In May, we want to evaluate the survey results together with you in a workshop, develop further ideas and look for ways to implement them. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • BIKE IT! Bremen and the theme year "FAHRRADja! 2024. Bremen moves you." invite you to take part in CITY CYCLING in Bremen for the first time. Anyone can take part - alone, with others or preferably in our team "Hochschule Bremen (HSB)" :-)!

For three weeks (from September 2 to 22, 2024) you have the opportunity to have your kilometers recorded by an app and start cycling together. The teams will compete against each other and Bremen as a municipality against other municipalities. So get on your bike for your health, for the climate and for your city!

Registration is now possible here: https://www.stadtradeln.de/en/bremen
(when registering, select "Join an existing team" and then enter "Bremen University of Applied Sciences (HSB)")

  • Mental Health Week is starting again from 4 to 8 November 2024: a varied programme with numerous online events (via zoom) and an in-person day on 6 November 2024 with live lectures and workshops. Registration for all events will take place online and will be possible from 23 September 2024.

Programme & registration (with your HSB-Mail-address!) at: https://webshare.hs-bremen.de/f/b524fe1d93fb41f1ae77/?dl=1

A special highlight of the programme this year is the ‘Mental Health Podcast Tour’. What is that? Stay tuned and listen in :-)!

  • Will continue next semester. Dates will follow

Whether you're studying for the first time or are already in a higher semester, it can be a challenge to (re)settle into university life. Studying independently and working at the same time? Away from home for the first time and finding new contacts? Or lonely during your studies? Fear of the next exam or presentation? Feelings of stress? Many students experience stumbling blocks that are just as varied as student life itself.

Together, some things are easier. That's why we're offering a group this semester to exchange ideas and develop healthy problem-solving strategies. Christian Welp, a psychologist, will lead the group, provide input on various topics and support you with your individual concerns and questions

    Interested?

If you would like to join, please send a short email to studienberatung@hs-bremen.de.

  • Will continue next semester. Dates will follow

    ***

    Weekly on Wednesdays from 11:45 - 12:00;

We will learn simple 15-minute mindfulness and relaxation exercises and meditations. No prior experience is necessary; just be open and curious, log in and try it out: https://www.hs-bremen.de/kurs/11271/

  • You can take advantage of other sports activities around the university, such as university sports, the HSB Tri-Runners running group or the water bike team.

  • "From walking to (company) running": We would like to invite students and employees for the second time to take part in a preparatory running course and as a finale in the BMW company run on 18.06.2024, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The invitation is explicitly aimed at current "non-runners" or "returning runners", who will be supported by the expert running coach "Achim" in five training sessions. The aim is to complete the approx. 5 km course and cross the finish line together as a group. So it's about a shared HSB experience and the joy of running, not about fast times. The entry fees are covered.

    Training dates: Tuesdays 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. (14.05.2024, 21.05.2024, 28.05.2024, 04.06.2024, 11.06.2024

    Registration, no-shows and further information:

Please send the registration, your T-shirt size and questions to our sports representative Ingo Heidrich by e-mail:  Ingo.Heidrich@hs-bremen.de.

Registration deadline is 03.05.2024. In the event of a no-show, the person will be invoiced the amount of the entry fee (€ 25.00) (exception: doctor's attestation in case of illness).

This year, in cooperation with hkk Krankenkasse and TK, we have succeeded in covering the entire costs (e.g. entry fee €25.00) for a total of 50 employees and students. So that we are easily recognizable as an HSB team, each person will be provided with a high-quality functional shirt in the HSB design before the run, which will be collected again at the end of the run in the interests of sustainability so that it can be used again the following year.

Further facts to convince the inner bastard 😉:

    •     No expensive running shoes are required, just sportswear and a drink
    •     Participation in the company run is also possible without the preparation course
    •     The training sessions take place in a protected environment at the ATS Buntentor sports facility
    •     The sessions include tips on running technique, warming up, breathing, gradual progression (from walking to running), etc.
    •     It is not a problem if you have to miss a training session
    •     You can also run alone or with others after the company run and keep fit ;-)

    Have fun!

  • The weather is great, but your bike isn't in good shape yet? No problem!

There are still places available for the free bike workshops at neusi's!

Register directly at the neusi's, simply show your semester ticket or similar.

    Workshops on the following Saturdays:

    25.05. - 08.06. - 22.06. - 29.06., each 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

There are also dates with an open workshop for do-it-yourself repairs.

If you're planning a bike tour this Thursday and your bike isn't running properly yet, you can repair it tomorrow at neusi's!

No registration required, every Wednesday in May:

    15.05. - 22.05. - 29.05., each 3 - 5 p.m.

Further information is available at the bike repair café.

  • You have fulfilled your wish to start studying and yet you still have doubts as to whether the decision is the right one? That's how many students feel. Having doubts means asking questions and reflecting on your own situation once again.

However, you are not alone with your thoughts. As well as talking to friends and family, you can also share your thoughts with other students and work out new ideas and goals.

We therefore invite you to our event "Study doubts? - Study success!" on May 07, 2024 from 16:00 - 18:30 at Neustadtswall.

Please register by 28.04.2024: Simply email your name, course of study and semester to studienberatung@hs-bremen.de
