Vice President for Digitalisation

‘Digitalisation is not only a technological change: it is a transformation. In order to win everyone over, we need to build an inclusive and participatory structure as well as a culture coupled with a future oriented perspective.’

The team

We are a proactive team: reliable, networked, and active across all areas.

Information security and data protection

The ever-evolving digital world goes hand in hand with an increased risk of data loss. Michael is responsible for setting up an Information Security Management System (ISMS) capable of preventing cyber-attacks and ensuring the protection of all types of data, especially for confidential and sensitive information, such as personal or other critical data that should not be freely accessible. If you have any questions about data protection or IT security, please feel free to contact him at any time.

You can find more details on the internal webpage:

Development of digital infrastructure in the faculties

Jendrik Bulk is a lecturer in Faculty 4. He is currently also working on his doctoral thesis in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science titled Brain Computer Interface as a mobility control for people with disabilities. With a part of his position, he offers proactive support and advice across all HSB faculties in further developing their technical-digital infrastructure in the area of teaching and learning.

Digital implementation of internationalisation

The fact that digitalisation at HSB is a cross-sectional task is impressively demonstrated by Sebastian. On the one hand, he is a participant in the digitalisation project 'Erasmus Without Paper' (EWP). In this capacity, he serves and develops a wide range of organisational and technical interfaces across the university that are important for the success of the project. On the other hand, he actively shapes digitalisation@HSB with his participation in various other projects and objectives related to the digital transformation at HSB.

Sven Müller

In context of the project 'Integrated Approach to Digital Innovation in Teaching and Learning' (AddInno), Sven is involved with the Vice President for Digitalisation in the development of suitable training and process models. He tests the suitability of formats for the acquisition of digital skills within the framework of DigComp 2.2 for employees and their technical-structural embedding at HSB. His questions from the perspective of a media informatics student are particularly valuable.

Auf dem Bild ist Sven Müller zusehen. Er hat sein langes, blond-braunes Haar zu einem tiefen Dutt zusammengebunden. Er trägt eine Kette die unter seinem dunkelgrauen T-Shirt verschwindet.

Next Generation

Our student coworkers – the 'next generation' – are a very important part of our team.

As students themselves, they know the needs and requirements of our most important target group and make an essential contribution towards the digital transformation at Hochschule Bremen through their first-hand knowledge and student perspective. This makes them essential stakeholders in optimising existing processes and designing new ones.

Administrative digitalisation and informatics

Emre has been enrolled of a cooperative degree programme with the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen since 2021.

His studies at Hochschule Harz prepare him for the challenges of digitalisation in the public sector. In the context of digitalisation projects, he not only deals with questions of administrative sciences, but also examines, among other things, the possibilities for technical implementation and the area of organisational development.

At Hochschule Bremen, he supports the Registrar’s Office, Student Affairs (D3) and the Computer Centre (RZhsb).

Student Workers

Denis Ritter

Student of Media Computer Science

Denis Ritter is a real all-rounder. He enriches the team through the numerous tasks entrusted to him and with his student perspective. Denis' area of responsibility includes setting up the internal digital signature for users throughout HSB. He also supports the Registrar's Office, Student Affairs (D3), for example with the Student Life Cycle Project and the FAQs on student applications. He also provides technical support at the Neustadtswall Campus and the ZIMT Campus and Denis has proven himself indispensable for efficient technical support on a number of occasions.

Research Data Management (FDM@HSB)

The BMBF (Federal Ministry of Research and Education)- funded project FDM@HSB is conceptualising a future-oriented, research data management (FDM) which is specific to HSB. Following implementation tests and a positive evaluation of the trial phase, it will be permanently established as a quality-assured FDM at the HSB. In the FDM team and in cooperation with the colleagues of the SuUB (Bremen Universites' Library System), we develop and anchor FDM in the newly integrated digitalisation strategy of the HSB, create customised services for data exchange, publication and archiving of research data, and advise as well as train researchers of the HSB in the handling of their data throughout the entire research data life cycle.

Strategy development and project management

Jan is responsible for project management and networking with other stakeholders from the FDM community in the HSB FDM team. He is also coordinating the development of an FDM strategy for HSB. This includes the development of a guideline ("policy") that meets the HSB-specific requirements for handling research data, as well as recommendations for researchers on how to handle research data. Jan is also involved in the development of advisory and information services on FDM. He holds a degree in sociology and was awarded his doctorate in 2014 at the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS). After postdoctoral research positions at the University of Bremen and the Humboldt University of Berlin, he helped establish the national research data centre (FDZ) Qualiservice at the University of Bremen in 2018 and coordinated a work package at KonsortSWD in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) from 2021 on.

Consultation & Training

In order to support researchers in handling their research data, the FDM team offers individual consulting for all members of the HSB who work with research data. Indra develops consulting services tailored to your project-specific FDM requirements and develops and implements information services and training courses on FDM along the data lifecycle for the HSB. In the FDM@HSB project, Indra is responsible for WP3 "Consulting and Service" and - together with Jan - for WP4 "Information, Awareness and Competence Building". Indra has already been involved with Open Data during her time as a research assistant and supported researchers at the University of Vechta with advice and services that also related to their research data management.
