Teaching Area Infrastructure planning of environmental and energy facilities

The course deals with the context of environmental and energy technology systems in a variety of ways. Students learn about the complex field of infrastructure planning, taking into account environmental law, social expectations and technical requirements:

  • Ecological principles and evaluation
  • Geographical information systems / BIM-GIS laboratory
  • Environmental and planning law
  • Neighborhood and infrastructure development

In cooperation with practice and research partners, this knowledge can be used to address highly topical issues such as

  • Heat transition / municipal heat planning,
  • Climate protection vs. climate adaptation,
  • future water supply and disposal infrastructures, etc.

This knowledge can be deepened in project modules, elective subjects and final theses.

Consulting Hours

By appointment (e-mail).

Curriculum Vitae

    • Since 01/2020, he has been representing the teaching area "Infrastructure planning of environmental and energy-technical facilities" in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Environment, namely in the courses of study Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Energy and Environmental Systems. Since the summer semester23 he has also been involved in the cooperation with the master's program Interdisciplinary Sustainability Management at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
    • Prior to his appointment at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Jürgen Knies gained professional experience at the Oldenburg Institute for Information Technology (OFFIS e.V.), the Institute for Pipeline Construction (iro GmbH), and the Jade University of Applied Sciences (joint project ENaQ "Energetic Neighborhood Quarter Fliegerhorst Oldenburg"), among others. The combination of renewable energies and spatial planning was always in the focus of his work.
    • Jürgen Knies acquired his academic qualifications with degrees from the Universities of Oldenburg (diploma course in landscape ecology) and Salzburg (master's course in applied geoinformatics) as well as with a doctorate on the topic: "The spatial reference in the future energy system - strategic heat planning in urban areas" in the doctoral program of the Jade University of Applied Sciences Jade2Pro (cooperative doctorate with the University of Oldenburg).
    • Vice Dean of Faculty 2
    • Member of the research commission
    • Regularly awarded the Peter Wefing Prize for final theses
    • Member of the heat supply expert group of the North German Energy Research (contact person for Bremen)
    • Scientific advisory board of the North German Heat Research Conference
    • Contact person for the OLEC membership of the Bremen University of Applied Sciences
    • Member of the network Wärmewende Bremen
    • Expert at the startup promotion of the Bremer Aufbaubank
