KWP-Boost is a research project co-led by Bremer Energie-Konsens and adelphi research, with the participation of Bremen University of Applied Sciences and the ECOLOG Institute. Together, we are developing an innovative process model for the targeted mobilisation of community energy potential in urban areas, with a view to accelerating the implementation of local heating plans. The research findings support local authorities in effectively harnessing community potential when implementing their heating plans. The transferable process model enables them to systematically identify, initiate and coordinate community energy projects. They also enable local authorities to strengthen acceptance of heating transition measures through participation and to tap into new technical solutions, such as low-temperature networks, based on community engagement. The ‘Potential’ sub-project focuses on the data-driven analysis of socio-economic conditions in order to initiate target-group-specific heating planning. The outcome consists of city-wide typified clusters serving as a basis for decision-making regarding the selection and description of the chosen neighbourhoods. The approach is being tested and validated using two specific neighbourhoods as case studies. The results will be published freely and incorporated into the action guide to be produced.
