Bremen University of Applied Sciences at the 4th North German Conference on Heat Research

On 17 and 18 September, around 60 specialist papers on heating infrastructure, the heating transition in society and simulation technologies were discussed there.

Two research projects from the working group presented their interim findings. Frank Plummer presented the NiWaP (Lower Saxony Heat Planner) collaborative project. It is developing quality criteria for the comparability and standardisation of local authority heating plans and is expanding the range of heating supply options under consideration to include so-called LowEx networks, which provide heat at a low temperature.

Timmy Schwarz presented the collaborative project KWP-Boost (Citizen Participation as the Key to Implementing Municipal Heat Planning). The project links the technical suitability of neighbourhoods for heat supply options, such as cold local heating, with the capacity of their residents to mobilise socially. In the Bremen neighbourhoods of Vegesack and Neustadt, the approach will be tested in collaboration with the project partners as the project progresses.

Both projects form part of a broader research focus of the working group on the municipal heat transition, which has recently also come to include the BreVERNE project. The conference also provided an opportunity for professional exchange with colleagues from previous and related research projects.
