Extreme Hochwasserereignisse, wie das Hochwasser im Mai und Juni 2013 in Mitteleuropa, das in Deutschland zu Überschwemmungen in mehreren Bundesländern führte, zeigen, dass ein enormer materieller und personeller Aufwand zur Verteidigung bestehender Deichlinien gegen akutes Versagen im Hochwasserfall erforderlich ist. Bisher basiert die Verteidigung durchbruchgefährdeter Deichlinien in erster Linie auf den Einsatz von Sandsäcken. Sandsäcke sind flexibel einzusetzen, problematisch sind jedoch der erforderliche personelle, materielle und zeitliche Aufwand für deren Verlegung und Rückbau. Ziel des Forschungsprojektes DeichKade ist die Entwicklung von mobilen, ohne weitere Verankerungen ortsfest installierbaren und mit Wasser befüllbaren Schlauchkonstruktionen für die sichere und ressourcenschonende Aufkadung von überflutungsgefährdeten Deichabschnitten. Die zu entwickelnden Schlauchkonstruktionen sollen sicher und effizient und somit auch mit geringem Personal-, Material- und Transporteinsatz verwendbar sein und Sandsackaufkadungen auf Deichen ersetzen.
