Im Rahmen des BMBF-geförderten Drittmittelprojekts REA haben wir neue marine Enzyme (Peroxidasen) aus Makroalgen identifiziert und kostengünstig rekombinant in Bakterien produziert, um neue Tools für die Bioindustrie zu generieren. In diesem Projekt BestWestern verwenden wir diese Enzyme, um neue diagnostische Testverfahren der Biomedizin zu entwickeln. Das Detektionssystem der bisherigen kommerziellen Testverfahren basiert auf der enzymatischen Reaktion einer Peroxidase, die aus Meerrettich isoliert wird. Wir zielen darauf ab, mit unseren Enzymen die bisher verwendeten Verfahren zu modifizieren, um so kompetitive diagnostische Tests zu entwickeln, die bei ähnlicher Effizienz sowohl kostengünstiger als auch durch geringeren Chemikalienverbrauch nachhaltiger sind.
