Das Projekt „BIOMETER: Biokompatibilitätsuntersuchungen von Extrakten aus Wasserpflanzen“ ist dem HSB-Forschungscluster BLUE SCIENCE zugeordnet. Zum einen sollen im Projekt BIOMETER Extrakte aus Wasserpflanzen hinsichtlich deren Auswirkungen auf die Vitalität von eukaryotischen Zellkulturen und damit auf deren Biokompatibilität untersucht werden. Dieses unter anderem auf Basis der Vorgaben der DIN EN ISO 10993 Reihe. Dieses ermöglicht es, die Methodik zur Bewertung der Biokompatibilität sowohl abteilungs- und fakultätsübergreifend, also auch für externe Kooperationen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Zum anderen geht damit einher, dass das BIOMETER Projekt helfen wird, die methodischen und technischen Kompetenzen an der Hochschule Bremen im Bereich der eukaryotischen Zellkulturtechniken auszubauen. Im Fokus stehen hierbei Methoden zur Analyse der Zellviabilität und der Zellproliferation sowie damit im Zusammenhang stehend der Zytotoxizität von (Bio)Materialien bzw. deren Extrakten. Dieses durch zellbiologische Assays wie WST-1 (MTT, XTT, EZ4U etc.), der Bewertung der Zellmorphologie mit Hilfe der Mikroskopie oder der Zellanfärbung durch Fluoreszenzfarbstoffe.
