Anknüpfend an die Inbetriebnahme des im Bau befindlichen „WKL-Elektrolyseurs“ (WKL – Wärmekraftlabor) der MW-Klasse wird der eigebaute proton exchange membrane (PEM)-Stack, das Herzstück der Elektrolyse, mittels standardisierter Testverfahren eingefahren und anschließend mittels der Aufnahme von UV-Kennlinien charakterisiert. Zeitleich werden die selben Testfahrten an um den Faktor 15 kleineren Stack durchgeführt. Die gesammelten Daten sollen mittelfristig zur Entwicklung eines skalierbaren elektrochemischen Models beitragen. Darüber hinaus gilt es die WKL-Anlage weiter mit Messtechnik auszustatten und für einen Dauerbetrieb umzurüsten. Dazu sind umfassende sicherheitstechnische Schaltungen, vorzugsweise verbindungsprogrammierte Steuerungen, zu planen und aufzubauen. Die Messtechnik ist insbesondere zu so zu erweitern, dass eine Evaluierung der in der Vorbereitung befindlichen VDI 4635 Power2X – Beiblatt Wasserstoffbereitstellung mittels Wasserelektrolyse möglich wird. Dies betrifft insbesondere die Erfassung der Wasserstoff-Stoffmengen- bzw. Massenströme, sowie deren Zusammensetzung.
