Both live internationality in academia: the Bachelor’s programme in Business Administration / International Management (BIM) at Hochschule Bremen (HSB) - City University of Applied Sciences and the STARS EU university alliance. Within this European network, HSB is one of a total of nine European partner universities. Thus, it is entirely fitting that new collaborations should develop here. Consequently, the Double Degree Programme within the BIM course has welcomed the French STARS EU partner university, Université Marie et Louis Pasteur (UMLP) in Besançon, as a new partner. STARS EU is thereby moving closer to an important goal: to facilitate joint study programmes across Europe.
The BIM degree programme at HSB is an international programme that is usually delivered under the so-called ‘two-plus-two’ model: students spend four semesters in Bremen and four at a partner university abroad, resulting in two full bachelor’s degrees.
“We are delighted to welcome UMLP as another strong partner university to the BIM network,” says programme director Leena Pundt. “This collaboration strengthens our international profile and opens up further attractive opportunities for our students to gain a truly binational education.”
Prof. Dr. Julie Beugnot, Programme Director at the STARS EU partner university in France: "for a few years now, we have been trying to internationalize our training. We live close to the boarder and have a double degree called ABIBAC (German Abitur and French Baccalauréat) in one of the biggest Highschools in Besançon. It was almost natural for UMLP to open a double degree with HSB".
Prof. Dr Ulrich Krüger negotiated the new double degree agreement with UMLP on behalf of BIM. He adds: “It was important to us to find a partner university to help us continuously develop our integrated international degree programme. As a partner in the STARS EU Alliance, UMLP is ideally suited to offering a multilingual, German-French double degree.”
His counter-part, Prof. Dr. Célia Berger-Tarare, who negociated the agreement for UMLP confirms : "Franco-German collaboration with HSB was certainly obvious. Professors from HSB and UMLP have strong connexions already in research and short training. We needed to build on this momentum by launching a long-term collaboration involving the students"
This new partnership not only adds a new option to the international exchange opportunities offered through the double degree programme; it also brings the university alliance closer to its key objective of facilitating joint study programmes across Europe. In doing so, HSB further strengthens the programme’s distinctive language-focused approach. Students complete their studies bilingually in German and French, and are additionally prepared for a trilingual international professional career through English-language teaching components.
