Hochschule Bremen (HSB) thrives on the people who study, work and enrich it as guests. In our “Three Questions for…” series, we introduce some of them. Here: Sana Arousse. The new member of staff in the Career Service/Student Success and Internationalisation Unit has been working as coordinator of the “FIT@HSB” project since October 2024. She has close ties to Hochschule Bremen: Sana Arousse has already completed her Master’s degree in EU Studies at the International Graduate Centre (IGC). In the “FIT@HSB” project, she supports international students and graduates in their academic and professional careers. The total duration of the project, funded by the DAAD and the BMBF, is four years: from April 2024 to December 2028.
Ms Arousse, why is the “FIT@HSB” project needed?
We keep reading about it in the media: Germany needs international skilled workers. However, this requires that they are properly trained, integrated into the German labour market and that their career prospects are supported. Our project contributes to this. During their studies, we provide international students with individual advice and support to help them better understand the academic environment at German universities and successfully achieve their study goals. We also offer special workshops and training sessions on topics such as intercultural communication, academic writing and career planning. When transitioning into the labour market, “FIT@HSB” supports students through job application training, workshops on career opportunities, individual career guidance, and joint attendance at networking events and excursions. In addition, through short-term mentoring, students have the opportunity to expand their professional networks by engaging with alumni and subject experts, thereby optimising their career prospects.
What do you enjoy about your job, and what motivates you?
I derive immense joy and personal satisfaction from being able to help someone who needs guidance. The fact that I can have a positive influence on someone’s future and bring about positive change through my advice is deeply fulfilling. I am delighted to be able to do this at Hochschule Bremen– an academic and university environment. This allows me to retain my ‘student spirit’, to which I am deeply attached with a sense of nostalgia.
How do the faculties at HSB benefit from your involvement?
The project brings benefits for the faculties: by helping to promote the integration of international students and supporting their academic success, it strengthens the international focus and visibility of the faculties and of HSB as a whole. The accompanying FIT programmes can help to promote the internationalisation of degree programmes. We look forward to working with you!
