
She is a student with excellent grades, volunteers in her free time, is a yoga teacher and offers Bollywood workshops: Sannae Kapoor is the winner of the DAAD Prize 2025 at Hochschule Bremen - City University of Applied Sciences (HSB). The award is endowed with 1,000 euros. Born in India, she is studying for an MBA in European/Asian Management at the International Graduate Centre at HSB.
‘I would like to congratulate Sannae Kapoor on this award and thank her very much for her strong and passionate commitment to our society,’ said Prof. Dr. Annika Maschwitz, Vice-president for Academic Affairs, Teaching and International Relations, at the award ceremony. This took place during the welcome event for first-year students at the town hall on 5 November 2025. ‘People like her are important role models for us all.’
Sannae Kapoor is not only a student with excellent grades. In her free time, the 30-year-old volunteers at the Sikh Association of Germany. There, the young woman cooks and distributes food to people in need in Hamburg and Bremen. Sannae Kapoor also works for the German-Indian Society. Yoga has had a profound influence on her outlook on life and plays an important role in her everyday routine. As a yoga teacher, the student offers courses. But Sannae Kapoor also enjoys the Indian film industry Bollywood and has already held a corresponding workshop at the IGC of Hochschule Bremen.
‘Receiving this award is not only recognition of my achievements, but also motivation for me to continue working to promote intercultural understanding and the well-being of the community in Germany,’ says Sannae Kapoor. ‘I am convinced that education and community life are inextricably linked,’ says the HSB student. ‘I grew up with the values of seva (selfless service) and intercultural respect. I see volunteering not only as a way to give back, but also as an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Every project I participate in has opened up new perspectives for me, taught me humility and strengthened my sense of belonging to Germany as my second home.’
Sannae Kapoor is studying for an MBA in European/Asian Management at the International Graduate Centre (IGC) at Hochschule Bremen. ‘Coming to Germany and completing this MBA was an important milestone for me,’ she says. "The programme has offered me numerous opportunities to develop both academically and personally in a multicultural environment. I had the opportunity to interact with students from different cultural backgrounds, which broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of global cooperation. Life at HSB is also enriching beyond the academic sphere, as HSB organises various local events and excursions that help us feel at home far away from home." After graduating, the young woman would like to work in Germany or Europe.
Every year, universities in Germany award the DAAD Prize to international students for their outstanding academic achievements and high level of personal commitment. The money is provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The students who have received such an award from their respective host universities represent their fellow students from all over the world. They are future partners for Germany in business, politics and science.
