Teaching Opportunities within STARS EU

Content

This workshop is designed to support faculty members in integrating international perspectives and collaborative practices into their teaching. It provides an overview of the benefits of internationalisation, explores opportunities within the STARS EU alliance, and equips participants with practical strategies for fostering global competence in their students.

Rationale for Internationalisation: In an increasingly interconnected world, the development of global competence is essential for both personal and professional success. Internationalisation of the curriculum is no longer simply a desirable addition, but a fundamental requirement for preparing students to navigate complex global challenges and contribute to a diverse and interconnected society. This workshop will examine the pedagogical and societal benefits of embedding international perspectives within higher education.

Introducing Support for International Teaching: This workshop will provide an overview of the resources and support mechanisms available to faculty members seeking to enhance the international dimension of their teaching. Participants will gain insight into available opportunities and how to access relevant support structures.

Leveraging the STARS EU Alliance: Collaborative Initiatives. The STARS EU alliance offers a unique platform for collaborative teaching and learning. This session will explore opportunities within the alliance, including the implementation of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), Collaborative Online International Learning (COILs), and the integration of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Expanding Internationalisation Through Diverse Approaches: Internationalisation can be achieved through a variety of pedagogical strategies. Beyond large-scale collaborative projects, this workshop will highlight smaller-scale, readily implementable approaches, such as incorporating international guest lectures or designing assignments that promote intercultural understanding.

Innovative Pedagogies for a Global Classroom: Participants will be introduced to active learning methodologies – including Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) and simulations – that are particularly effective in fostering critical thinking, intercultural communication, and collaborative problem-solving. The workshop will address the adaptation of these methods for diverse student cohorts and online learning environments.

Networking and Collaboration within the Alliance: The STARS EU alliance provides a robust network of support for faculty engagement in internationalisation. This session will outline key contact points within the alliance, including Thematic Interest Groups focused on specific areas of international collaboration, and local support structures available within participating institutions. Participants will be provided with resources to facilitate ongoing collaboration and knowledge exchange.
