Erasmus+ for studying abroad

Get more out of your studies, do Erasmus!

ATTENTION: December 1, 2025 - January 31, 2026 - Application deadline for an Erasmus scholarship for a
semester abroad in the summer semester of 2026!

Experience the world while you study! With an Erasmus semester abroad, you have the chance to spend a semester at a university abroad and improve your language skills, get to know new cultures and develop personally and academically. Apply now for an Erasmus semester abroad and start your adventure!

The Erasmus+ programme supports you with:

  • Mobility grant to cover the additional costs incurred abroad
  • No tuition fees at partner universities
  • Recognition of achievements during your studies abroad
  • Funding opportunities for "Green Travel
  • Additional funding for participants with fewer opportunities
    • Students with children
    • Students with disabilities and chronic illnesses
    • First-time graduates
    • Working students

  • Partner Universities In our database you will find the universities with which the HSB cooperates in Erasmus+.

How much is my Erasmus+ funding?

The information applies to mobility programs funded under the Erasmus projects for 2024/25 and 2025/26. Further funding rates can be found at the NA DAAD. The amount of the monthly scholarship depends on your destination country. In addition, you can apply for a social top-up of €250 per month. In Erasmus+, the 2025/26 project distinguishes between three country categories (as in the 2024/25 project), which are based on the cost of living in the respective country.

In order to give all students the opportunity to receive funding, we unfortunately are forced to limit the duration of mobility funding in the 2025/26 project year, as was already the case in the 2024/25 project. Study visits of less than 4 months will be funded on a daily basis, while study visits of between 4 and 6 months (120-179 days) will be funded at a flat rate for 4 months (120 days). Study visits between 6 and 8 months (180-239 days) will be funded at a flat rate for 6 months (180 days), and study visits of more than 8 months (240 days and more) will be funded at a flat rate for 8 months (240 days).

Further questions about funding

  • Funding for mobilities to the United Kingdom as well as to the British Overseas Territories* is still possible. The funding rates and funding conditions of Country group 1 apply.

    * British Overseas Territories: Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Antarctic Territory, Falkland Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, Pitcairn Islands, St. Helena, Ascension, Tristan da Cunha, St. Pierre and Miquelon, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Wallis and Futuna

  • Erasmus+ promotes environmentally friendly travel! We would like to encourage you to consider environmentally friendly modes of transport. Of course, travel times by train and bus are sometimes significantly longer than by plane. As a financial incentive for sustainable travel (green mobility), up to four days of additional funding can be granted on top of the scholarship applied for. Environmentally friendly travel includes the following modes of transport:

    • Bus
    • Train
    • Carpool
    • Bicycle

Beyond the trip itself, we would like to encourage you to make sustainable choices while you are abroad, for example with regard to your consumption or mobility in the city.

  • To promote social inclusion, the Erasmus+ programme supports certain target groups with an additional €250 per month. This benefits:

    • students with a child
    • students with a chronic illness
    • students with a disability (GdB 20) or higher
    • first-time university graduates
    • employed students

Information on the exact funding conditions and the requirements for Social Top-Ups through Erasmus+ can be found here.

Application deadline for the summer semester: 01.12. - 31.01.

Application deadline for the winter semester 2025/26: 15.06. - 15.07.2025

Please note: If you are applying for an Erasmus place at a partner university of the HSB, you can only apply for the Erasmus+ scholarship. An application for other DAAD scholarships (for example HAW.International) is excluded in this case. However, BAföG abroad can be applied for in parallel to Erasmus+.

Procedure

  1. Requirements
  2. Before the stay abroad
  3. During the stay abroad
  4. After the stay abroad
  • Erasmus-Portal

  • You must fulfil the following conditions to be eligible for an Erasmus+ scholarship for study purposes:

    • Full-time student at the Hochschule Bremen
    • Study abroad at a partner university in an Erasmus+ programme country
    • Minimum duration of study abroad: two months
    • Availability of funds

GOOD TO KNOW: FUNDING THROUGH ERASMUS+ IS INDEPENDENT OF NATIONALITY AND AGE!

  • To apply for a place at an Erasmus+ partner university, apply directly to the Decentralised International Office (DIO) of your faculty. You can indicate up to three universities of your choice.

  • Your DIO nominates you for a place at a partner university. You must then apply abroad with all the documents required by the host university by the deadline and accept the place.

Course selection: The courses you would like to take at the host university must be approved by your programme director or the international representatives. Use the "Learning Agreement for Studies" document for this purpose. You may also need to submit internal course selection forms for the degree programme. You then submit the Learning Agreement, signed by all parties, to us as part of your Erasmus application.

If your host university requires a digital Learning Agreement, you can also indicate this in your application and we will then activate the digital Learning Agreement for you. You will then receive an email about this.

  • The application is made via the Erasmus+ online portal of the HSB. Please fill out the application carefully and completely and upload your Learning Agreement. You can find the Learning Agreement form and other documents in the "Forms and Downloads" section.

Please note: As a matter of principle, we will only correspond with you via your Hochschule Bremen email address (@stud.hs-bremen.de). Please check these e-mails regularly and make sure that your mailbox is not full. Once you have sent your application, your data can no longer be changed.

Log in to the online portal regularly to check the status of your application and complete any necessary steps, e.g., uploading the online learning agreement or grant agreement in the workflow.

The International Office will only process your application in the online portal workflow once all documents are complete.

If your application is successful, the grant agreement will be made available to you in the online portal.

Please upload the digitally signed grant agreement back into the workflow within 14 days of receiving it.

  • Once you have submitted all the documents in full, you will receive 80% of your Erasmus grant.

  • We wish you a wonderful and exciting time abroad! If there are any changes to your course selection or the duration of your mobility, please notify your DIO in the faculty and the Erasmus office in writing by email at erasmus@hs-bremen.de.

  • You submit the following graduation documents to us via an upload link, which we will send to your HSB email address after your stay abroad:

    • Letter of Confirmation: Certificate of study abroad (to be uploaded to the online portal)
    • EU-Survey (The link to this will be automatically sent to your HSB e-mail address after your stay abroad)

Please submit the following documents to your DIO:

    • Learning Agreement (after the mobility)
    • Transcripts
    • If applicable, an internal questionnaire
    • If applicable, a copy of the Letter of Confirmation
    • If applicable, additional forms for your respective degree programme

Please submit all documents within 30 days after the end of your stay abroad.

You will receive the remaining amount of approximately 20 percent of the Erasmus+ mobility grant after you have submitted the Letter of Confirmation and the EU Survey.
