    Content
Citation can be confusing for many students. This workshop aims to clarify the differences between citation, paraphrasing, summarizing, and referencing. Based on a scientific text you bring with you (e.g., a journal article or book chapter), which you should have already read, you will practice integrating different types of references into your own writing. Through peer exchange, participants will reflect on their work and identify areas for improvement.

Mentoring Programme for international students

Drei Menschen stehen sich gegenüber und unterhalten sich. Im Hintergrund hängen HSB Plakate.

The Mentoring Programme at Hochschule Bremen connects international students (mentees) with dedicated alumni and representatives from Bremen-based companies (mentors).

The goal of the programme is to support international students in starting their careers in Germany, gain insights into different industries, and benefit from the experiences of professionals and executives. At the same time, it fosters valuable and lasting networks between the university, the business community, and international talents.

During the programme, at least three individually arranged meetings between mentee and mentor take place. Typical topics include:

  • Career development: professional orientation, goal setting, and career planning
  • Work culture: structures, processes, and informal rules in the workplace
  • Self-management: time and task organisation
  • Leadership skills: understanding roles and expectations
  • Networking: building and maintaining professional relationships
  • Communication: collaborating with colleagues and supervisors
  • Work-life balance: integrating professional and personal life

The programme started in November 2025.

Both mentees and mentors can register via the application form. The project coordination team will arrange the matching process and inform participants about their mentoring pairs.
A joint kick-off event will mark the start of the programme, and further details will be communicated to all participants in due time.

Your contact person for the Mentoring Programme is: Sana Arousse

  • The Mentoring Programme runs over a period of three to six months.

During the programme, one to three individually arranged meetings take place between the mentee and the mentor – depending on needs and availability, either in person or online.

The following topics, among others, may be discussed:

    • Career development: professional orientation, goal setting, and career planning
    • Work culture: structures, processes, and informal workplace norms
    • Self-management: time and task organization
    • Leadership skills: expectations and understanding of leadership roles
    • Networking: building and maintaining professional contacts
    • Communication: collaboration with colleagues and supervisors
    • Work-life balance: reconciling professional and personal life

Mentors also remain part of the mentoring network in the long term and benefit from valuable exchanges with other participants as well as access to a unique pool of international young talents.

  • Engage. Support. Inspire.

Mentoring means helping to shape the future. With your experience, you provide guidance, make structures visible, and encourage international young professionals to find their own path.

As a mentor, you accompany international students on their journey into professional life in Germany. You share your experiences, offer valuable insights into your industry, and support the development of career orientation. At the same time, new perspectives open up for you, you build exciting contacts, and you strengthen the visibility of your company or institution.

    Your role in mentoring:

    • You create a trusting environment for open exchange.
    • You share knowledge, experience, and professional networks.
    • You see mentoring as a dialogue on equal terms and as an opportunity for mutual learning.

  • Discover. Grow. Take Off.

In mentoring, you receive support, guidance, and inspiration – for your start in the professional world and your ongoing development. Take the opportunity to network, learn, and actively shape your future.

The mentoring programme helps you navigate your entry into professional life in Germany. Together with your mentor, you work on your career goals, gain a better understanding of German work culture, and develop strategies for your individual career path.

    Your role in mentoring:

    • You are motivated to actively advance your professional and personal development.
    • You are open to feedback, new perspectives, and constructive exchange.
    • You prepare for meetings and bring on your own questions and topics.
