HSB/ IGC alumnus Ferhat Gülebaş shares his advice for feeling at home in the new environment.

Take care of yourself

"Take time for your well-being. You have dared to make a huge step in your life by moving to another country. Be fair to yourself. Achieving big goals may take time, accept that fact and be patient.

So that you become successful in your endeavor, you should take care of your physical and psychological health in the first place. After all, our health is the precondition of all other steps mentioned here.

While you seek a career in Germany, life continues to go on. Take time for yourself."

"In what kind of flat do you live?
Do you eat healthy food or just grab a fastfood to save time? Can you cook at least some nutritional dishes or somebody else does it for you?
Do you take care of your body and do sport?
Be honest to yourself, how do you feel yourself at your new home?
With whom do you spend your time in your social life?
Is your friend group constructive or destructive for your future?
Do you have at least one native German-speaking friend? Do you find possibility to take part in cultural events in the city?
How often do you laugh in your daily life?"

"These questions can be elaborated depending on the person, the main idea behind them is whether we are doing well to make Germany our new home. At the beginning you may make some small and slow steps towards it, however don't worry, there's no hurry. The main thing, that you are moving into the right direction."
