In the 1960s, so-called ‘Kämpf’ web girders – the precursors to glued laminated timber trusses – were installed as roof trusses in halls with spans exceeding l = 12 m. This type of truss had also been used, for example, in the ice rink in Bad Reichenhall, whose roof structure collapsed in 2006. This type of truss has now also been identified in Bremen during routine inspections. We were offered the opportunity to dismantle one truss for research purposes and make it available for load testing.
