The end of the 2025 summer semester at Faculty 5 – School of Nature and Engineering was marked by official farewells and tributes to the graduates. Two ceremonies were held for the graduates at the Airportstadt campus of Hochschule Bremen (HSB).
Graduates from a total of 20 bachelor's and master's degree programmes in the two departments of ‘Mechanical Engineering’ and ‘Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Nautical and Maritime Transport, Biology, Bionics’ came to the HSB Airportstadt campus on 20 and 27 June respectively. They celebrated their successful graduation from Hochschule Bremen together with the university management, former lecturers, fellow students, family and friends.
The two official graduation ceremonies honoured the achievements of the approximately 90 graduates in attendance who successfully completed their bachelor's or master's degrees over the past two years. The ceremony began with personal greetings from the rectorate and lecturers from the respective degree programmes. In their speeches, they emphasised the importance of practical academic training, the immense social contribution made by HSB to the success of the transformative challenges of our time, and the achievements and successes of the students over the past years. ‘HSB and your faculty congratulate all graduates and wish you all the best for your future professional and personal endeavours,’ said Professor Bastian Gruschka, summarising the sentiments of everyone present.
Afterwards, the certificates were ceremoniously presented to all graduates in attendance. Accompanied by applause and the proud gazes of the guests, each graduation was individually honoured.
The two afternoons came to a close in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere at the get-together in the lobby of the AIR/PORT/LAB. Dean Prof. Dr. Jürgen Westhof was delighted: ‘An all-round successful event with many interesting conversations with our graduates.’ Over cool drinks and in many rounds of conversation, everyone took the opportunity to look back on the time spent together and toast to the future.
Professor Jorgen von der Brelie, from the Department of Engineering, himself a graduate of HSB, sums it up: ‘Hochschule Bremen gives you the toolbox, but you build the future by yourself.’
