Hochschule Bremen (HSB) thrives on the people who study and work here, and who enrich the university as visitors. In our ‘Three Questions for…’ section, we introduce some of them. Here is Nicolas Molina Sanchez. The 18-year-old ‘Bufdi’ has been supporting the HSB’s Student Services as part of a Federal Voluntary Service since September.
Mr Molina Sanchez, a warm welcome to the HSB! What do you do here as a Federal Volunteer?
Quite a lot. At the moment, I’m helping the International Office organise the orientation week for around 110 international students who are joining HSB for the winter semester. I’m also helping to organise Café International, which takes place every Friday at 5 pm for international students and others interested at HSB. I’m also involved in the Student Advisory Service. Here, among other things, I will be helping out at fairs and school visits to represent the HSB. In the Career Service, I am scheduled to assist with the allocation of the Germany Scholarship. Last but not least, I spend two hours a day in the Enrolment Office, where I support my colleagues with post processing and archiving. I also get to help out at events such as the first-year welcome at Bremen Town Hall.
That’s quite a lot and very varied. What are you hoping to gain from your time at Bremen University of Applied Sciences?
For one thing, I’m particularly looking forward to tasks that give me the chance to meet people from all over the world, make new contacts and improve my English. It’s certainly going to be an exciting time for me. I’m also very grateful for the chance to get to know HSB from this new perspective and to gain valuable experience for my future career. I’d like to use this voluntary year to gain a wide range of practical experience.
Will you stay at HSB after this year?
Definitely. I’d like to start a dual degree programme in Business and Management. Who knows, perhaps we’ll see each other more often in the future.
