Spotlight: Care
Studying, working part-time, socialising with friends – and caring for relatives on top of that: this is the reality for around 12% of students in Germany. These “hidden lives” involve enormous responsibility, time pressure and emotional strain – but often remain invisible.
Studying, part-time jobs, socialising with friends – and caring for relatives on top of that: for many students, this is everyday life. Around 12% of all students in Germany regularly take on caregiving responsibilities within their family or social circle. But their situation usually remains invisible – ‘hidden lives’ that involve a great deal of responsibility, time pressure and emotional strain.
Caring students juggle not only deadlines, exams and internships, but also doctor's appointments, medication schedules and care services or daily shopping. They often don't talk about it – for fear of being misunderstood or because their reality seems so far removed from the ‘typical student life’.
With our campaign, we want to make your experiences visible, dispel myths about caregiving, introduce support services and create small places to take a breather.
