All students and staff are cordially invited to the film
„Picture a Scientist – Women of Science“ is an impressive documentary film that deals with discrimination, sexism and racism in science. The Gender Equality Commission (ZKFF) invites all staff and students to watch the film together and discuss it afterwards. Before the film, the work of the ZKFF at the HSB will be presented.
„Picture a Scientist – Women of Science“ reports on the efforts of female researchers who are opening a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks and geologist Jane Willenbring take viewers on a journey into their own experiences in science, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle insults. As the film moves from small labs to impressive field stations, we meet scientific luminaries - including social scientists, neuroscientists and psychologists - who offer new perspectives on how science itself can become more diverse, equitable and open to all.
The film is in English, the discussion in German.
Note: In some scenes, there are reports of sexualised harassment as well as institutional
gender-specific and racist discrimination.

The Gender Equality Commission is the permanent committee for women in research and teaching at the HSB. Among other things, it develops proposals for measures to reduce disadvantages for women in science and supports the university management in implementing the legal mandate to promote women and gender equality.
The meetings of the commission are open to the public and invitations are sent out via the HSB's email distribution list. You are also welcome to attend the next meeting without obligation and find out which of the many topics we discuss are of interest to you.
