Designing a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)

Content

The workshop provides a concise and practice-oriented introduction to the design and implementation of a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) under the Erasmus+ framework. It addresses three core areas:

  • Didactic Design
    • Defining learning objectives and outcomes
    • Designing blended formats that combine physical and virtual mobility
    • Strategies for community building and intercultural inclusion
    • Structuring learning phases using models (e.g. design thinking)
    • Creating shared digital workspaces for collaboration and reflection
  • Administrative Planning
    • Overview of Erasmus+ requirements and deadlines
    • Budget planning and funding structures
    • Partner coordination and communication
    • Recruiting and selecting students, managing expectations and dropout risks
  • Curricular Integration
    • Embedding the BIP into existing curricula or modules
    • Allocation of ECTS credits and assessment design
    • Ensuring recognition for students (and staff)

Target Group

Teaching staff from all faculties within the STARS EU Alliance who are planning or considering the development of a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and wish to gain a structured overview of its didactic, administrative, and curricular requirements.

Goal

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to

  • design and implement a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) that is didactically coherent, administratively feasible, and academically embedded within their respective curricula.
  • understand key considerations in the areas of didactics, administration, and curricular integration.
  • initiate their own BIP by using the practical tools.

Personal Information

Dr. Jan-Eric Bartels is the coordinator of Work Package 3: Curriculum Lab of STARS EU. His focus is the internationalisation of curricula, courses and micro-credentials. 

Dr. Nejla Karabulut  is a lecturer and researcher at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, where she is involved in international collaboration projects on digital literacy, inclusion, and the twin transition. She has contributed to several BIP activities focused on challenge-based learning around digital challenges. Currently, she is part of Work Package 3: Curriculum Lab of STARS EU, focusing on the development of green and digital skills.
