When the whole of Bremen celebrates the German Unity Day public festival from 2 to 4 October 2026, Hochschule Bremen - City University of Applied Sciences (HSB) will be there. Thanks to the commitment of numerous staff and students, it will be showcasing itself in a variety of ways:
Over the past few months, architecture student Moritz Heyde has designed and built life-size sculptures of the Bremen Town Musicians in the model-making workshop at the School of Architecture Bremen.
They will be on display at two venues
The first is in the former Galeria Kaufhof building, where the HSB and numerous academic institutions will be presenting themselves at information and hands-on stands.
The second is scheduled to take place at the Town Hall of Bremen for the state reception. Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the Minister-Presidents of the federal states will immortalise themselves on Friday, 2 October, by signing the sculpture created by the HSB student.
At the Town Hall, a project by Professor Andreas Teufel and Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences on the theme of democracy will be on display. The exhibition will be open to participants on guided tours in the ballroom as part of the ‘Open Town Hall’ event on Sunday, 4 October 2026. Following this, the exhibition is due to be shown at various venues in Bremen and Bremerhaven.
You can visit the HSB at a stand in the former Kaufhof building. Numerous academic institutions are showcasing themselves on the ground floor of the building. Do pop by, have a go on the wheel of fortune and win a prize, build a small satellite or send your photo into space via it. Staff will be on hand to provide information about study programmes and job opportunities at the HSB, and the BreGoS project will be showcasing homemade furniture that is 100 per cent recyclable.
An HSB rocket will be on display in the shop window facing the Lloyd-Passage. In addition, researchers from the TCALL project will be exhibiting at a stand alongside the University of Bremen and the industry partners.
Talks
HSB staff will also be taking part in a series of talks in the former Kaufhof building: Tim Gust from the Institute for Aerospace Technology (IAT) will give a talk on satellite development on Sunday 4 October, from 12.00 to 12.30.
HSB staff will also be taking part in a series of talks held in the former Kaufhof building: in a keynote address, Katrin Nissel from the Centre for Intercultural Management & Diversity (ZIM) will present the Bremen Diversity Award, ‘Diversity – our key to the future!’, on Sunday 4 October 2026 at 4.00 pm.
