The international B.A. programme in Journalism comprises seven semesters, integrated into which is a practicum semester as well as a semester at a university abroad.
The Bachelor's programme was accredited in September 2004 and replaced the diploma programme in the winter semester 2004/2005.

With its international programme in Journalism B.A., the Bremen University of Applied Sciences offers an integrated programme in media theory and media practice (in editorial apprenticeship as well as in the radio and TV laboratory). This practically oriented training based on the sound communication of academic theory is in great demand in the marketplace.

The evolution of journalism is marked by various trends to which this Bachelor's programme responds.
a) An increasing specialization: Because of the ever-increasing market for special-interest and technical journals and magazines and because of the popularization of scientific topics in daily newspapers as well as in radio and television broadcasting, the demand for experts is expanding. With the subject-specific modules in the areas of economics/politics and technology, the students in the B.A. programme in Journalism develop basic knowledge as well as in-depth knowledge in these subject areas.
b) Internationalisation: The catchword "globalisation" does not stop before the media marketplace either.

Media moguls are the global players in this branch. On the one hand they provide jobs, on the other their strategies in their media political and social implications need to be analysed. Journalists who have learned how to compare media systems and developments in media policies and media law on the national and international level are in a position to accomplish this. In addition, the topics (for example, EU policy), the research sources and research paths (Internet) are becoming internationalized--even in regional journalism.

Since journalists have to communicate these developments in society to society, they should have the best possible training in terms not only of their expertise in media theory and media practice but also in terms of their subject expertise in at least one field of knowledge and their communicative competence. The B.A. programme takes these demands into account.
