Awarding of university places: On the basis of the decree on the awarding of university places, 80 per cent of the available university places are to be assigned following the implementation of a separate admission procedure. This is to be re-established on an annual basis.
Application:
Applications are accepted for the winter semester, i.e., with the beginning of studies to take place at the first part of October. To this end the supporting documents must be received by 15 July, 12 midnight. Later submission is not acceptable.
The university has the option of admitting 80 per cent of the students annually by means of a separate qualifying examination. Of the 42 places available, 34 are assigned using this special admission procedure: The journalistic work sample (http://www.fachjournalistik.de/arbeitsprobe.htm) to be submitted by all applicants together with the supporting documents is evaluated (in increments of 1.0 = very good to 5.0 = unsatisfactory); this partial grade or mark is then calculated against the university entrance mark (as a rule the university entrance examination or advanced technical college entrance examination mark) in a ratio of 45 to 55 per cent (Numerus clausus). A ranking is formed based on this total mark and those placed in the sequence up to number 34 are admitted. If applicants do not assume their place, at least one move-up procedure is performed. The other eight places are distributed using other criteria (provisional semester; foreign applicant; hardship cases)
More detailed information about this procedure may be obtained from the student registration and examination office.
Journalistic work sample:
feature article OR commentary for a daily newspaper. The journalistic work sample is an integral part of the application documents. Please submit all of these by the deadlines indicated.
