Course Content
The "Women's International Degree Course in Computer Science” (B.Sc.) provides a constitutive qualification for a profession in computer science and focuses on software development.
The degree course is primarily mono educative, meaning that basic lectures are for women only and lectures are generally held in small groups. Beginning with the third semester, there will be possibilities to also attend in coeducational lectures.
Except of interest in the topic and a high level of motivation and commitment are no further requirements given for attending this degree course. Seminars to give beginners a start with the subject will be hold at the beginning and during the first semesters.
The degree course offers a fascinating and challenging syllabus which carries out the following principles:
- While teaching a comprehensive essential knowledge of computer science, practical relevance is an important part of the curriculum. Therefore concrete definitions of practical problems are integrated in all lectures. Furthermore general implementation orientation will be particularly emphasized and taught by lectures for the topics software engineering, human-computer interaction, relevant professional experience for computer science and informatics and society.
- By its international orientation the degree course takes the globalization and the increasing internationalization of companies into account. The integrated, obligatory semester abroad combined with a following practical semester, qualifies the students to handle transnational and intercultural issues. In addition the chances for alumnae to gain leading positions especially in technologic orientated occupational areas are increased.
- Its mono educative structure makes this degree course unique within all degree courses of computer science in Germany. For this reason the degree course enlarges the career opportunities for women and increases the number of female students in engineering and scientific degree courses, which is still small.
As a result of these principles, students, who have finished all seven semester and leaving the university as Bachelor of Science, have high technical, social and intercultural competences. Thereby all alumnae are well prepared for the requirements of a professional life.
