German Course

Those wanting to complete full-time studies at the University must provide evidence of their good German skills and successfully complete the German language exam “TestDaF” (Test of German as a Second Language). Details about the exam and preparation courses can be found under TestDaF.

There are several ways to improve your German skills:
  • For example, the University offers four-week vacation courses. These usually comprise 90 course-hours and are offered for different language levels and thematic areas. More information under Summer School.

  • You can also prepare for your stay in Germany by attending language classes in your native country. Investigate options at your home university.

  • Visit the Goethe Institute website to find out if one of their language schools (available in 76 countries) is located in your native city.

  • Those already in Germany or who wish to participate in an intensive language course immediately before courses begin will find valuable and detailed information on the webpage listing private language schools in Bremen.

Learning German with audio
With our English-German Audio Tutor in 100 lessons you can effectively learn basic vocabulary and improve your pronunciation. The lessons are based on the A1 and A2 level of the Common European Framework Reference and cover diverse vocabulary. The Audiotrainer is a joint cooperation between Deutsche Welle and the Goethe Verlag.
For students from partner universities
Students from partner universities may also take part in intermediate and advanced German courses accompanying their course of study. German skills are required! The placement test is held twice per year, always during the first weeks of both October and March, during the ‘Newcomer Service’ week.
