Public spaces connect neighbourhoods and people. In the form of squares, parks or street spaces, they frame the everyday and the momentary; they allow for closeness and distance. Within the urban fabric, they help us to orientate and identify. And sometimes they also allow a glimpse of the past.
Accordingly, public spaces are always interrelated with urban design and architecture. Spatially as island, oasis, theatrestage, window..., socially as a meeting place, market, counter-place, place for rallying and negotiation, ... and ecologically as a grove of trees, water mirror, wild meadow, ...
Spatial, social and ecological aspects of urban space each require suitable forms of approach and related formats. Thematically, this includes design projects and studies, the investigation and evaluation of case studies, excursions, exhibitions, ... Current topics of the department include
