Course Content

Practical social work is currently undergoing a significant process of change. The restructuring of the social system in Germany is progressing according to "legalities” which compel social work to react. Social Work must redefine its own self-conception. It is up to social work above all to determine the ethical aspects and foundations of professionalism within the field, including acting against the pressure of increased functionalism and correspondingly to newly formulate the paradigms of the relationship between professional claims and social reality.

In this process, the Social Work Bachelor of Arts Degree Course at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences orients itself toward the international definition set out by the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and which was adopted at the General Meeting of the IFSW in Montreal in July, 2000.

A significant emphasis on ethics in social work and respecting human diversity is an expression of the definition of the profession in concrete social work.

The process of further developing a defined model for social work education will serve as impetus for a public discussion in the regional professional public sphere regarding the current tasks of social work.
