Semester Abroad

Application Procedure:

Students may apply, all courses of the 1st to 3rd semester have been completed successfully.

Exceptional rule:

  1. "Joker": The student may have failed in at most one course of the 2nd or 3rd semester. If from the 2nd semester, it has to be repeated in the 4th semester (confirmation by professor that the student has registered for the course or an examination).
  2. If more course are missing, students may still apply in one of these cases:
    a) Failed exams of the 1st semester have been repeated at the end of the 3rd semester, but have not been graded: In this case, the examinations office certifies that an exam has taken place and the student has not unsubscribed from this exam (the exam has to be passed!).
    b) The grading process of a 3rd semester course has not been finished, but the responsible professor confirms to the examinations office that the student has passed the course.

The transcript of records is also to be signed by the head of the study programme.

Module: Preparation of Stay Abroad

This module is typically carried out directly before leave, i.e. in the lecture free time (August or September).

Contents: English course that is completed with a C1-equivalent test. Special tests that are required by the partner university abroad can be taken (against payment) in agreement with the language lab.

Module: Wrap-Up of Stay Abroad

This module is carried out by all students returning from their semester abroad and the professors of MI & DM as a block course. Part of this module are a written experience report by the students and a approx. 20 minute presentation.

Essential contents of the presentation are: studying at the partner university, contents of taken courses, short introduction to a topic worked on during the stay abroad (and that has not been taught in MI & DM).

This block course typically takes place at the beginning of the summer semester and is open to students from lower semesters.
