Relevance to Practice
The "Institute for the Environment and Biotechnology" is attached to the programme in Environmental Engineering. In this institute a multitude of research projects are undertaken by professors from the programmes in Environmental Engineering and Applied Biology. As a result of these research projects new questions, topics and contents repeatedly enter into the subject lectures, above all in the 3rd and 4th semesters in connection with the course "Environmental Engineering Project".
A total of seven laboratory practicums (chemistry, biology, fluid mechanics, drinking water production, process engineering, recycling industry and hazardous waste cleanup and a wastewater engineering methodology course) enable students to gain practical experience in all the important fields of environmental engineering.
A practical assignment to be completed in one block arises in the practice semester (7th subject semester). This lasts a continuous 11 weeks. As a rule the practice semester is completed in a firm or in another institution with connections to the working world. The tasks to be worked on during the practical study semester in the chosen firm or institution need to have connections which in terms of content deepen and expand the learning contents of the main studies.
