Course Content

The course of study begins with a two-semester basic studies. Basic studies in the subject major follow in the third and fourth semesters.

The integrated study abroad takes place in the subject study phase of the fifth and sixth semester.

The practice semester in the seventh semester follows.
With basic studies and basic studies in the subject major the outlines of the individual disciplines and the division of labour among them are taught.

Basic studies as an orienting, broadly conceived training phase serves to impart basic subject-specific knowledge, methodological skills and scientific work techniques.

Students are to become qualified for independent orientation and the independent planning and accomplishment needed for their studies.

The interconnectedness of the individual subjects and their practical applicability are made clear.
The integrated study abroad during the subject study phase as well as the practice semester promote the skills needed for scientific work and establish professional viability by means of broad basic qualifications combined with a self-selected concentration.

As a rule the practice semester is completed in a firm or in another institution with connections with the working world. Taken as a block it lasts at least 11 weeks. The tasks to be worked on during the practical study semester in the chosen firm or institution need to have connections which in terms of content deepen and expand the learning contents of the main studies.
At the conclusion of studies the title of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) is awarded.

Through the Bachelor's thesis, which is completed over a period of seven weeks, students prove by means of an example that they have successfully concluded their studies within the terms of the goals and contents set forth in the regulations governing university courses.
