Course Content
The dual, inter-university degree course in Information Technology leads to a professional practice qualifying degree. The close cooperation of training in companies, in the occupational school and study at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences and/or the University of Bremen results in practically-oriented, solidly academic training.Students attend commerce school during the first three years of study at the SII Utbremen Educational Centre, the Bremen site for commerce school instruction for all IT occupations. Teaching is organised in block class. Knowledge that is both necessary to the profession of the IT Specialist and relevant to the examinations is taught here, including business and social studies, business processes, project management, IT systems and application development. This constitutes enhanced instruction before the intermediate and final degree examinations for IT specialists.
Acquisition of mathematical and information technology foundations is emphasised during the first to third semester; from the fourth to the eighth semester of the degree course, students will specialise and deepen their knowledge of the field. Students who complete above-average Bachelor degrees will have the opportunity to acquire a consecutive Master degree.
The intermediate examination is held after 1.5 years and the final IT Specialist degree examination after 3 years; the final examination is through the chamber of commerce. After approximately 4 years, the IT education culminates in the Bachelor degree. In comparison with traditional commerce training followed by university study, this degree course enables students to attain their degree up to two and a half years more quickly, internship periods being included in the total duration.
