Practical orientation

In addition to its internationality, a further strength of the degree course is its distinct practical orientation. Long-standing, close contacts exist with leading German and international companies, which offer BIM students relevant work experience in various fields of business (see below). Moreover, it is often possible to complete the Bachelor project in collaboration with a company.

The course includes two periods of work experience which are undertaken in the fourth and eighth semesters. The first of the two internships is done in Germany, the second abroad. If the course commences at one of the partner universities, the order here is reversed.

The current BPO (Bachelor exam regulations) state that the internship in the fourth semester will be of 18 weeks’ duration and that in the eighth semester will be 15 weeks.

The practical module for the fourth semester is structured as follows:

  • Internship preparation: the dates and content of the various events are published in the course prospectus and on the course’s own Homepage. This module is spread over the second and third semesters.
  • Internship: An internship report must be written in addition to the actual internship in the company. Information as to the required content can be found in § 4 of the exam regulations for the BIM course.
  • Internship follow up: the internship follow up includes a reflection on the internship as a whole and an evaluation of the internship (was the content adequate, how good was the support, intercultural aspects, usefulness of the knowledge acquired etc.). The report which must be written here must also be written in a second language (see the course-specific exam regulations for more details).

Printed versions of the latest internship offers for all courses offered by the Business School are posted in the glass showcases in the ground floor corridor of A Wing. In addition, all of the faculty’s internship offers will soon also be available as a download via the script server.
